引言

大学已经过了两年，这期间好几次下定决心学好英语，然而每次都半途而废。

DAY 1

Reach the goals 必须达成目标

My life has been a trade-off.

我的人生是一场交易。
If I wanted to reach the goals I set for myself, I had to get at it and stay at it everyday.

如果我想达到我给自己设定的目标，就必须每天为之奋斗，坚持不懈。
I had to think about it all the time.

必须时刻把它放在心上。
I had to get up everyday with my mind set on improving something.

我每天一起床，脑子里就想着要去改进些什么。
I was driven by a desire to always be on the top of the heap.

DAY 2

Mean something 成为举足轻重的人，而不是废物

I want to do good.

我想做好的事情。
I want the world to be better because I was here.

I want my life, my work, and my family to mean something.

If you’re not making someone else’s life better then you’re wasting your time.

Your life will become better by making other lives better.

DAY 3

Protect your dream 捍卫你的梦想

Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something.
不要让任何人告诉你，你做不成事。
Not even me.
即便是我也不行。
You got a dream, you gotta protect it.
如果你有梦想，你要保护它。
When people can’t do something themselves, they’re gonna tell you that you can’t do it.

You want something, go get it.

DAY 4

Good artists copy, great artists steal. 优秀者模仿，伟大者剽窃。

How do you know what’s the right direction?

Ultimately it comes down to taste.

It’s a matter of trying to expose yourself to the best things that humans have done.

We have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.

DAY 5

Failed over and over and over again 一次一次又一次的失败

【1】I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.

【3】26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.

As a magician, I try to create images that make people stop and think.

Will you fight?

I have a great time with my life, and I want to share it.

I think that’s infectious, it’s something you can’t fake.

Greatness is not this wonderful, esoteric elusive god-like feature that only special people possess.

Sickening work ethic 病态的职业精神

The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things.

Talent you have naturally.
天赋是与生俱来的。
Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft.

I’ve never really viewed myself as particularly talented.

And where I excel is ridiculous, sickening, work ethic.

You know, while the other guy’s sleeping? I’m working.

There’s no easy way around it.

Bend your universe 驱动你的宇宙

Our thoughts, feelings, dreams, and ideas are physical in the Universe.

If we dream something, if we picture something, and if we commit ourselves to it – that is a physical thrust towards realization that we send out into the universe.

The universe is not a thing that’s going to push us around.

DAY 17

super hard

The first is you need to work, if you, depending on how well you want to do.

Particularly if you’re starting a company, you need to work super hard.

So what does super hard mean? 超级努力是什么意思呢？
Well, when my brother and I were starting up our first company, instead of getting an apartment, we just rented a small office.

Think different 非同凡响

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

I always knew I was going to be rich 我一直知道我会富有

I always knew I was going to be rich.

I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.
我一分钟都没怀疑过。
Einstein is reputed to have said that “compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world”. Or something like that.
据说爱因斯坦曾说过，“复利是世界的第八大奇迹”，或者类似的话。
And it goes back to that story, you probably learned when you were in grade school.
这总会追溯到那个故事，你可能在学校里听说过的故事。
Where somebody did something for the king.
有人为国王做了一些事情。
And the king said, “What can I do for you?”

And he said, “Well, let’s take a chessboard, and put one kernel of wheat on the first square, and then double it on the second, and double it on the third.”

Compound interest 复利法则

And very early, probably when I was seven or so, I took this book out of the Bensen Library, called “A thousand ways to make a $1,000.”

And one of the ways in this book was having penny weighing machines.

Alfred North Whitehead said it one time that “the rapid advance of civilization came only when man invented the method of invention.”
阿尔弗雷德·诺斯·怀特海曾经说过一句很正确的话，他说只有当人类“发明了发明的方法”之后，人类社会才能快速地发展。
And of course he was referring to the huge growth of GDP per capita and all the other good things that we now take for granted which started a few hundred years ago and before that all was stasis.
他指的是人均GDP的巨大增长和其他许多我们今天已经习以为常的好东西。人类社会在几百年前才出现了大发展，在那之前，每个世纪的发展几乎等于零。
So if civilization can progress only when it invents the method of invention, you can progress only when you learn the method of learning.

I was very lucky.

I came to law school having learned the method of learning and nothing has served me better in my long life than continuous learning.

And if you take Warren Buffett and watched him with a time clock, I would say half of all the time he spends is sitting on his ass and reading.

And a big chunk of the rest of the time is spent talking one on one, either on the telephone or personally, with highly gifted people whom he trusts and who trust him.

In other words, it looks quite academic, all this worldly success.

Just the words ‘yet’ or ‘not yet,’ we’re finding, give kids greater confidence, give them a path into the future that creates greater persistence.

And we can actually change students’ mindsets.

In one study, we taught them that every time they push out of their comfort zone to learn something new and difficult, the neurons in their brain can form new, stronger connections, and over time they can get smarter.

So I left the classroom, and I went to graduate school to become a psychologist.
